Accessibility Statement

TeamLuz2026.com · The Awakening Movement · Luz "Lucy" Browne for VI Legislature
Effective Date: June 2026 · Last Updated: June 2026

The Awakening Movement is committed to ensuring that TeamLuz2026.com is accessible to all residents of St. Croix and the U.S. Virgin Islands — including people with disabilities, seniors, and those using assistive technologies.

Our Commitment

Luz "Lucy" Browne's campaign platform prioritizes dignity and inclusion for all members of our community — including seniors, people with disabilities, and anyone who has been left behind by systems not designed with them in mind. That commitment extends to our digital presence.

We are committed to making TeamLuz2026.com as accessible and usable as possible for all visitors, regardless of ability, device, or technology.

Legal Framework

As a campaign website operating in the U.S. Virgin Islands, we are guided by the following legal standards and frameworks:

•Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Title III — requires places of public accommodation, including websites, to be accessible to people with disabilities. The ADA applies in the USVI as a federal territory.

•Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act — federal standard for accessible electronic and information technology, applicable to federally connected entities.

•Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 — the internationally recognized standard for web accessibility. We aim to meet at least Level AA conformance.

⚖️ USVI Context: The U.S. Virgin Islands is an unincorporated territory of the United States. Federal accessibility laws including the ADA and Section 508 apply. The USVI has additionally adopted accessibility provisions aligned with federal standards for public-facing communications.

Accessibility Features We Aim to Provide

Text alternatives: Images include descriptive alt text for screen reader users

•Color contrast: Text and background colors meet WCAG AA contrast ratios for readability

•Keyboard navigation: All major site functions are accessible via keyboard without requiring a mouse

•Readable font sizes: Text is sized for readability and can be scaled using browser settings

•Bilingual content: All major content is available in English and Spanish to serve our full community

•Mobile accessibility: The site is designed to be fully functional on mobile devices and assistive touch interfaces

•Clear language: Content is written in plain, clear language to be understandable for a wide range of readers

•Large print materials: Senior-specific campaign materials are available in large-print format upon request

Known Limitations

While we strive for full accessibility, some third-party content or embedded tools (such as donation processors or social media embeds) may not be fully within our control. We are actively working to ensure all components of the site meet accessibility standards and will address gaps as they are identified.

Seniors & Accessibility

Consistent with our Seniors First platform commitment, we have taken specific steps to make our digital materials accessible to older users, including large-print flyers, simple navigation, and phone-based alternatives for those who prefer not to use the website.
